Gunnersbury is a small place in the London Borough of London, situated on the far –northern edge of Chiswick. It is one of the few areas in London to have been named after a woman. The neighbourhood constitutes of a tube station, park and a pair of mansions. It is believed that area’s name derives from Gunhildr who owned the manor house.
The focal point of the district is the British Standards Institution building on Chiswick High Road. Gunnersbury station is located under the building. The station serves the London Overground to Stratford and the Richmond branch of District line. The bus overhaul facility established by the London General Omnibus Company was redeveloped into Chiswick Business Park. It includes the offices of companies such as CBS News, Discovery Channel, Technicolor and SBS Broadcasting Networks Ltd.
Near the business park is Gunnersbury Triangle nature reserve that contains an area of woodland and a wide range of animal and plant species. Chiswick Park Tube station is a walk away from the reserve. Gunnersbury Park is the district’s main open space, established on the place of the former Gunnersbury House. The original mansion was demolished and replaced the park and Gunnersbury House called the Large Mansion and the Small Mansion. The area is also home to the Gunnersbury Park Museum.
